Paranormal Detectives is a deduction party game that invites players into a unique investigative experience. In this game, one participant assumes the role of a Ghost, while the remaining players take on the identities of Paranormal Detectives tasked with uncovering the circumstances surrounding a murder mystery. Utilizing an array of paranormal abilities, Detectives interact with the Ghost by posing open-ended questions regarding the crime's details. The Ghost responds through various evocative methods—such as creating a hangman’s knot, selecting tarot cards, generating word puzzles on a talking board, or even drawing with the assistance of a Detective’s hand.

At the commencement of the game, the Ghost player receives a story card that offers an intricate overview of the murder case, encapsulating all critical aspects and details. Each Detective is equipped with a unique set of interaction cards tailored to their role, along with a player investigation sheet and a player screen designed to enhance their experience.

During their turns, Detectives are encouraged to pose any open question they desire while playing a single interaction card that dictates how the Ghost may respond. The game includes nine distinct types of interactions, most of which provide information accessible to all Detectives. This open format fosters significant creativity among both the Ghost and the Paranormal Detectives.

Twice throughout the game, Detectives have the opportunity to make educated guesses about the crime: they can identify the killer, specify the location, determine the motive, describe how the crime was committed, and name the murder weapon. The Ghost discreetly records how many of these answers are correct on that Detective's investigation sheet.
